I am pregnant, should I get a massage?
We recommend talking to your physician or mid-wife before receiving a massage. Make sure that the therapist is trained, qualified and experienced in pre-natal massage. Also, there is always a risk during the first trimester of the pregnancy, therefore I would recommend waiting until the second trimester to get a massage.
What should I expect when I receive a massage?
On your first visit, you will fill out two medical questionnaire forms. This will help the therapist conduct the massage appropriately. The therapist will go over your goals for the massage and allow you to ask questions and/or address any concerns you may have. Your massage will be conducted in a comfortable, private dim lit room with your choice of music or sound. The instructor will then leave the room while you disrobe after which you will lie on the table with a towel draped over your body. The therapist will then ask your permission to enter the room, and you will be wrapped with a sheet for complete privacy. The therapist will ensure that you feel comfortable and safe.
Do I have to take my clothes off?
No! It is not necessary, however for best results during a full body massage it is recommended. I always tell the client to undress to their level of comfort. If the client feels they want to leave their underwear on, wear a bathing suit or shorts, that is fine. Our main goal is to make the client as comfortable as possible. The therapist will only uncover the part of the body he/she will be working on. The rest of your body will be covered with a towel and a sheet.
Is there anything I need to do after a massage?
The most important thing to do is to drink plenty of water to cleanse the body of lactic acid and other toxins that are released during a massage. You may also take a hot shower or a hot bath with Epsom salt to release toxins.
